A cross-sectional survey design was adopted for the study. This study investigates the use of BIM and its impact on construction project performance in Ghanaian architecture, engineering and construction industry. Notwithstanding, there is a prospect for the adoption of BIM in the Ghanaian construction industry.īuilding Information Modelling (BIM) is a key computer-aided technology that can facilitate construction productivity enhancements through the removal of numerous construction inefficiencies. It was revealed that the industry is inclined to the use of traditional techniques as opposed to modern building information modelling system. The findings basically identified the various building information modelling techniques employed in the building industry and the possibilities of its adoption in the Ghanaian construction industry. The study exploits survey questionnaire to elicit responses from the professionals in the building Construction Industry. The aim of this study is to explore the prospects of building information modelling and its adoption in the Ghanaian Construction Industry using the original Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a basis. However, these practices have not been well integrated into the Ghanaian Construction Industry especially the building industry. The good news is that there have been attempts over the past years to streamline building information modelling. BIM came into play few years ago, to make construction better, easy retrieval of construction documents and save time. Successful projects also are tied with profit making and in consequence survival in the construction industry.
Recommendations are made for the inclusion of Structural CAD programs in the courses of the Universities offering Civil Engineering and related programs in Ghana.īuilding information modelling is vital in delivering successful projects.

However, majority (64.8%) of the respondents did not know about any of the Structural CAD software packages, indicating a low awareness level of Structural CAD software programs. The study established that the respondents knew the General CAD programs of which 69.9% knew AutoCAD. The design used for this study was survey which relied on questionnaire to generate data for the analysis and discussions. This paper reports the assessment of the level of awareness and usage of structural CAD programs by students in Universities offering Civil Engineering and related programs in Ghana.
This makes CAD an important part of the design and construction industry. In view of this, more CAD software programs have been developed to design and analyze buildings and structures. The few past decades have seen the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software application in the area of built environment.
